1. HOW TO BOOK THE HUNTING OR FISHING TRIP

After your itinerary is set, we require a deposit of 30% of the total hunting or fishing package. You can send either a personal check or a money transfer to one the bank listed under Rates. The remainder 70% will be settled upon arrival.

 

2. VISAS

Most countries, including the United States and a large amount of European countries, do not need a tourist visa to visit Uruguay. However, you can call the Uruguayan Embassy or consulate in your country for more information.

 

3. VACCINES

None are required.

 

4. CLIMATE

 

The country has four seasons. Rio Negro has a very mild winters (mid-June to August), pleasant falls (March to mid-June), hot summers (December-February) and most beautiful springs (September – mid-December).

The median temperature is 26.2º throughout the year. It ranges from 14ºC to 33.5ºC in Spring/Summer and 8.6ºC a 19ºC in Fall/Winter

 

5. SUGGESTED LUGGAGE

 

We suggest you travel light, with minimal luggage, limiting yourself to one or two bags for the trip.

You should bring your usual hunting and/or fishing gear, for instance: camouflage jacket, jeans,
waterproof cloaks, camouflage trousers, shirts and t-shirts, hat, raincoat, mountain boots, water boots, comfortable shoes, sun glasses and something warm to wear for the first hours in the morning.

 

6. DOCUMENTATION NEEDED TO ENTER WEAPONS

 

Hunters must bring valid passports and a consular authorization for the temporary import of their weapon to Uruguay. Please contact the nearest Uruguayan consulate office for this authorization. Important to note, that this permit needs to state that weapons will be “reimported” back to the country of origin. Usually, you need to have your original valid passport, 6 passport photographs, photocopies of weapon permits and respective guides and a copy of the insurance. However, please check with the Uruguayan consulate in case these requirements change.

As soon as you arrive Uruguay airport (Carrasco/Int Airport), it is important that you declare the weapons with the aeronautical police, presenting the required documents and filling a form. This procedure is also required as you leave the country. Blackriver representative will assist you with authorities.

 

7. CURRENCY

 

Uruguayan official currency is the peso ($). Cash is the most common form of payment while credit cards are accepted only in urban areas.

Blackriver Lodge’s fishing and hunting rates are quoted and required to be settled in American dollars (U$D). Form of payment is cash, wire transfer or check.

 

8. BOOKING YOUR FLIGHT TO URUGUAY

 

If you departure country is the United States of America, there are several daily direct flights to Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), in Buenos Aires / Carrasco int airport in Uruguay, from main cities such as New York, Washington DC, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago among others. United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Aerolíneas Argentinas all travel to Argentina/URUGUAY. Please call your preferred travel agent for more information.

If you are traveling from a main European city, please check with Lufthansa, Alitalia, Iberia, British Airways, Air France, Varig and Aerolíneas Argentinas, as they offer frequent flights to Ezeiza or Carrasco Airport Uruguay.

 

9. DOMESTIC TRANSFER FROM BUENOS AIRES TO URUGUAY

 

BLACKRIVER Lodge can arrange for a private charter flight from Buenos Aires to PAYSANDU, which takes approximately 1.30 hours. Please let us know if you are interested, and we’ ll gladly provide you with a quote. Then a Van from the lodge will pick you up 20 min trip driving to the lodge.
An alternative option is to take a commercial flight from Buenos Aires to Carrasco Airport in Montevideo (45 minutes) and then continue with ground transportation for 350KM (3,5 hours). This option is more economical.

Other option is to take a charter from Montevideo Carrasco airport 1,5 hs flight and then land into Paysandú airport and a van from the lodge will pick you up to drive you 20 min to the lodge.

 

10. SPECIAL REQUESTS

Our restaurant offers Argentinean/Uruguayan and local food from Rio Negro. However, if you have a special requirement such as vegetarian meal or to prepare what you’ve fished or hunted, please let us know.

 

11. ACTIVITIES FOR COMPANIONS (WHO DON’T HUNT OR FISH)

There are several attractive activities for non-shooting companions: horse-back riding, speedboat sailing across the rivers, casino, enjoy the tranquility and gardens or even visit Paysandu / Colon where main casino, museum and harbor are located.

 

12. TYPICAL HUNTING DAY

A normal hunting day is to wake up at sunrise in order to be standing at the shooting spot as soon as the first sun’s ray appears. At lunch time, the meal is ready waiting for them at the lodge and during the afternoons the shooting continues until late afternoon when the sun goes down.

 

13. WING SHOOTING LIMITS AND SPECIES

 

There are two hunting outings per day one in the morning and the other at afternoon. The hunting limits and respective species are:


Partridge (perdiz ): 1 box per hunter.

Ducks : 3 boxes per hunter.

Pigeons : 3 boxes per hunters.

Doves : no limit.

 

14. WING SHOOTING SEASON

The hunting season for doves, ducks and partridge starts on May through September 15th

15. FISHING SEASON

Fishing area is surrounded by small rivers, streams and creeks. All together they are the perfect place for fishing Tarariras and “Dorado’s”. It is possible to do fly-fishing at the Uruguayan River as well as trolling and spinning at the Rio Negro and Queguay Creek either from the coast or by boat.

 

17. FISHING REQUIRMENTS

 

Rods: for line 7 or 8, 9 to 10 feet long.
Reels: Any high-performance reel will do. Strong brake system, with at least 100 yards of 20-pound backing.
Lines: WF floating line for tropical weather. We recommend Ultra 3 bonefish taper of SA. Also, fast-sinking shootings Teeny T-200 and T-300.
Leaders: for floating lines from 7 to 9 feet long, with strong butts to turn big flies, 16-pound- resistance tippets, with 20 cm of 20-pound steel wire.
Flies: Deceiver type, sizes should range from 1/0 to 4/0. Poppers and divers are also used. Black, purple, chartreuse, white and yellow have proved good color options.

Accessories: Pincers, hook sharpener, a pair of pliers, polarized glasses, sun block, lip protector, insect repellent, a weighing scale, etc.

 

18. HUNTING EQUIPMENT

 

Automatic 20 caliber gun or 12 are recommended. Blackriver lodge provides all ammunition at very low prices (U$D 12,50 a box of 25 20 gauge / U$D 14,50 a box of 12 gauge) The brand of the shells is Fiocci or Zaga Blackriver lodge provides the following shot gun for rent at U$D 65 per gun / day / Stoeger (same mechanism of Bennelli) 12 gauge and 20 gauge (escort hasan). Made in Turkey.

For the hunting of ducks it is necessary boots or waders. Notice THAT OCASSIANALLY YOU WILL ONLY USE HITBOOTS BUT BETTER TO CARRY WADERS IN CASE WE HAVE A BIG RAIN AND YOU NEED THOSE!

Medicines (If you take some medical prescription regularly, please, DO NOT FORGET to bring it with you).

 

19. TAXIDERMIA not allowed.

Blackriver Lodge can not sponsor this any longer due to the fact that Airlines STOP the possibility in Uruguay of any duck dove partridge or pigeon in bags or any luggage.

 

20. TOURISM IN OTHER CITIES

 

If required we can book any excursion or tour in Buenos Aires Argentina our neighbour or anywhere in the country like Montevideo Seaside (one of the best in the world!. There are several options in Buenos Aires, such as Tango shows and several other excursions with English speaking guide if needed. In other parts of our country you can choose to visit the Iguazú Falls, Ibera Marshalls in Corrientes Province, the Perito Moreno Glaciar in Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, the North West (Salta, or Jujuy) all in Argentina.
